Call Center Employees
Employees who work in call centers are often denied overtime pay. Many call centers have their employees perform pre-shift and post-shift tasks such as booting up computer and software and reviewing emails and other paperwork prior to clocking in. All of these minutes each day add up quickly and can lead to hundreds if not thousands of dollars of unpaid overtime. Also, call center employees who perform sales work over the phone are often denied overtime pay. Some employers misclassify these sales people as being exempt from over time and pay them a set salary + commissions or bonuses. Persons performing sales/marketing work over the phone are typically required to be paid overtime. Other employers may pay these call center employees by the hour with overtime pay, but fail to include their commissions or bonuses when calculating overtime pay. Both of these schemes by employers can deny call center employees thousands of dollars in overtime pay.
